Variable Frequency Drives
An inverter (variable frequency drive, VFD) controls how a motor starts, runs, and stops. Fitting one onto an industrial fan, pump, or compressor takes a system that's been running flat-out 24/7 and gives it the ability to run only as hard as the building actually needs. The energy saving is significant, the mechanical wear drops, and you get smooth start-up instead of the slam of direct-on-line ignition.
We install drives across the range. Small ABB and Schneider units for individual fans. Larger Danfoss and Siemens drives for chiller plant and big extract systems. The job covers the drive itself, the motor connection, sensors and control wiring, the parameter set-up, and the commissioning that gets the drive talking to the rest of the building's controls.
Pricing runs from around £1,000 for a small single-phase retrofit up to £8,000 for a fully integrated multi-drive system. The variables are the kW size of the motor, the harmonic filter requirements on the supply, and whether you need EMC compliance for medical or sensitive environments.
We also size and supply the drives where the consultant hasn't already specified them. Most clients want one supplier who can pick the drive, install it correctly, and stay around to support it. We log every parameter and provide a full commissioning record so a maintenance team can troubleshoot without ringing us.
